Monday, July 19, 1999

Good morning and welcome to our four session workshop! We will be meeting today, Wednesday, Friday and next Moday from 8:00 to 10:30A.

During these sessions we will be covering the following topics:

In our first session we will focus on web page construction, what it takes to do it, and what you do with it when your finished. I strongly recommend the following text to help you in these efforts.

Adobe PageMill GraphicAdobe PageMill 2.0/3.0

You will have access to Adobe PageMill 2.0 for authoring your web pages. However this software has since been upgraded to a newer version (v3.0) which you can download from the Adobe web site. Just click on the header or graphic for this product and you will be taken to the download area for the software. the beauty of this software is that it covers both Mac and PC platforms and is truly a WYSIWYG editor! We will discuss both the advantages and drawbacks to this feature.

UMAX Scanner The UMAX Scanner

You will have access to a UMAX Scanner for digitizing your photos, drawings and text. This header and graphic are also linked to the support level of the UMAX web site so that you will have access to the latest software versions for VistaScan® and PageManager®. We will not be using the PageManager® software during this workshop but it is installed on the scanner in Chris' classroom.

Kodak 210 Plus Kodak 210 Plus Digital Camera

You will have access to this camera to play with and learn the basics of digital photography. Taking the pictures is only half the fun. Downloading them to the computer and using them in your publications completes the activity and really gets your point accross to readers of your web page! We will also "focus" on the use of traditional camers in the classroom setting and the benefit that they can present to you.

Now that we know the "toys/tools" that we will be using in this workshop, let's take a close look at the capabilities of each and see what we can put together for some creative examples of web publishing.
